About Us
Film was dead, or at least that’s what I was being told back in 2007 when I began to get into photography. “Invest in digital, its the future.” But I just couldn’t get away from look, the vibe, the feel of photographic film. I started with an affordable film camera, a 35mm Lomography Sprocket Rocket and an expired roll of Kodak Gold film someone had given me. I was hooked after the very first roll.
But film was actually dying. Film became harder to find. Kodak was struggling and on the verge of bankruptcy, Polaroid was already gone. And photo labs were shutting down left and right. My love for film continued to grow as the means to buy it and get it developed began to disappear.
So in a desperate attempt to help save film, I began to develop my own. And I absolutely loved it!
Fast Forward to today
Shutter Junkies is a small, family-ran film lab located in a rural community east of Dallas-Fort Worth. We’ve survived the film apocalypse, Covid-19, and the long-lasting effects of supply-chain issues and inflation and are still working hard to develop your disposable cameras and film!
We primarily function as a mail-in photo lab, but we do accept drop-offs from local customers. We employ artists, actors, creative individuals, and students in our community and teach them the love of film, the technical aspects of working with it, and strive to inspire creativity in an area of Texas where creativity is often is short supply. We make quality our focus and customer support is important to us as each of our customers are part of our bigger film-loving family!
Every roll, every disposable camera you send us helps to bring education, inspiration, and grow dedication to keep the art of film photography alive! You’re supporting a small business, but your also supporting young artists as they grow and explore and learn as part of our staff.
Thanks for being awesome and keep shooting film!
